ARE YOU A LAND MANAGER, EDUCATOR, RESEARCHER, STUDENT, RANCHER, OR SOMEONE INTERESTED IN RANGELANDS?
This year’s conference is a joint production of CSSRM and the Colorado Plateau Science and Management Forum. We will explore what is known about the future impacts of aridification to western Colorado rangelands and how we can adapt and build resilience. The theme of “Avoid, Reduce, Restore” is a framework for thinking about how to respond strategically to future and current challenges like aridification and climate change.
Join us to explore strategies for avoiding and reducing land degradation and restoring degraded lands.
Field Tour and Workshop Agenda + Speaker Bios
Field tour
Join us and Danielle Bilyeu Johnston of Colorado Parks and Wildlife as we tour nearby sites where an innovative restoration treatment was applied to increase the chance of grass seeding success. The treatment helps capture moisture and discourage annuals. See first-hand the results after 9 years, and learn about the practicalities of application.
We will also tour and learn from BLM ecologist Nikki Grant-Hoffman and a recent synthesis looking at long-term outcomes of restoration in salt desert sites. Finally, we will tour an area particularly affected by the ongoing drought and brainstorm strategies on restoration methods.
