​CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2025 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Colorado State University Scholarships
Annabelle Thomas is majoring in Natural Resource Management with a minor in French at CSU. Annabelle is an active member of the CSU Range Club and Plant ID Team and will be the vice president of the club in 2026.

Noah Niemeyer is majoring in Forest and Rangeland Stewardship with a concentration in Rangeland Conservation and Management with a minor in Applied Environmental Policy Analysis. Noah restarted the Rangeland Ecology Club and has restarted a Plant ID Team, organized multiple presenters, planned a volunteer workday at a local seed swap and another day building erosion control structures, and secured grants to send seven students to the SRM International Meeting. The CSU chapter won 1st place in the Rangeland Cup competition in 2025 for their sagebrush management plan.

​CSSRM is proud to announce it will be providing scholarships in 2026. The goal of this program is to support students, ranchers, and other professionals as they pursue academic programs and projects that benefit rangelands.

  1. Review eligibility requirements below

  3. Submit the application and all other application materials to Kasey Dollerschell, the CSSRM Scholarship Committee Chair at [email protected]

SCHOLARSHIP AND Passion GRANT APPLICATIONS, WHAT'S REQUIRED

CSSRM is pleased to accept applications for the 2026 academic year undergraduate college scholarship (up ot $1,000) and a CSSRM "Passion Project" Grant (up to $1,000).

ELIGIBILITY

CSU Undergraduate Scholarship (up to $1,000)
  • Be a junior or senior in good standing (full or part-time) at Colorado State University for the academic year of the available scholarship being offered and enrolled in an SRM accredited rangeland major or minor.
  • Have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

CSSRM "Passion Project" Grant (up to $1,000)
  • This program is designed to support any individual witha  project related to Colorado Rangelands. Graduate students, career professionals, producers, and the interested public are all invited to share their vision for what they would like to accomplish with the help of the grant.
  • Possible projects include: research, attending grazing schools or other producer trainings, professional development or continuing education, hosting educational events or creating educational materials for others, or the arts. 
  • If the need is less than $1,000 please indicate that in your application. 

APPLICATION

The application will allow you to indicate which oppportunity you are applying for and then the required documentation that should accompany it. Your application email should include:
  • Application 
  • A resume or curriculum vitae 
  • For the academic scholarship 
    1. A letter of 500 words or less describing the applicant's interests in rangelands and their short- and long-term goals as they pertain to their professional career.
    2. An official copy of your most recent academic transcript.
  • For the "Passion Project" grant
    1. A letter describing your proposed project or activity in 500 words or less. A short video explaining the project is an alternative to the letter. 

SUBMISSION OF THE APPLICATION

Email the completed application packet to the scholarship committee by the application date of May 30th each year.

Announcement of awards

Announcements of awards will be made by the beginning of August each year. Recipients will be notified by email.

Awarded funds for scholarship recipient(s) will be deposited directly in their student account at Colorado State University for the Fall semester. Requests for exemptions for this requirement may be submitted to the CSSRM Board of Directors. The scholarship is to be used in the year it is awarded.

Passion Project grant awardees will have a check sent to them to use for their intended project. 

The decisions of the CSSRM Scholarship Committee are final and not subject to appeal. CSSRM reserves the right to award a portion of the money to eligible recipients OR not award any of the aforementioned scholarships or grants at all.

Passion Projects Grant
  • ​Project must benefit Colorado rangelands
  • Submission of Application Materials by May 31st:
    • Completed Application Form
    • Resume or CV
    • 500 word proposal explaining the vision for the project, and what the funds will be used for. A short video is an acceptable alternative to a letter.

Scholarship and Grant FAQ:

General Questions:
Q: What is the deadline to apply for a Scholarship or Grant?
A: May 31st each year.

Q: When does the Scholarship Committee decide on who the recipients are?
A: The ​Scholarship Committee decides by early August each year and notifies awardees by email.

​Colorado State University Scholarship Questions:
Q: How many scholarships does the Section give each year? 
A: The number of scholarships we give is usually one $1,000 scholarship. However, the committee can divide the scholarship into two $500 scholarships or in some years if there is no Passion Grant application, the committee may award two $1,000 scholarships. 

Q: How are the funds distributed to the awardee(s)?
A: A check is sent from the Colorado Section for the Society for Range Management to Colorado State University's Registrar with the student's name and school ID number before the start of the fall term. The money is deposited into the student's account like other scholarships.

​Passion Project Grant Questions:
Q: What kinds of projects are eligible for funding?
A: In the past, the committee has awarded funding for the production on book on FFA Range Judging for Ag Teachers, money to attend a Ranching for Profit workshop, money to take an online soil course, money for attending the Regenerate Conference in Denver, and more. 

Q: How are the funds distributed to the awardee?
​A: A check is sent from the Colorado Section for the Society for Range Management directly to the  recipient.
