​CSSRM is proud to announce it will be providing scholarships in 2025. The goal of this program is to support students, ranchers, and other professionals as they pursue academic programs and projects that benefit rangelands.
​

SCHOLARSHIP AND GRANT APPLICATIONS, WHAT'S REQUIRED

CSSRM is pleased to accept applications for the 2025 academic year undergraduate college scholarship (up ot $1,000) and a CSSRM "Passion Project" Grant (up to $1,000).

ELIGIBILITY

CSU Undergraduate Scholarship (up to $1,000)
  • Be a junior or senior in good standing (full or part-time) at Colorado State University for the academic year of the available scholarship being offered and enrolled in an SRM accredited rangeland major or minor.
  • Have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

CSSRM "Passion Project" Grant (up to $1,000)
  • This program is designed to support any individual witha  project related to Colorado Rangelands. Graduate students, career professionals, producers, and the interested public are all invited to share their vision for what they would like to accomplish with the help of the grant.
  • Possible projects include: research, attending grazing schools or other producer trainings, professional development or continuing education, hosting educational events or creating educational materials for others, or the arts. 
  • If the need is less than $1,000 please indicate that in your application. 

APPLICATION

The application will allow you to indicate which oppportunity you are applying for and then the required documentation that should accompany it. Your application email should include:
  • Application 
  • A resume or curriculum vitae 
  • For the academic scholarship 
    1. A letter of 500 words or less describing the applicant's interests in rangelands and their short- and long-term goals as they pertain to their professional career.
    2. An official copy of your most recent academic transcript.
  • For the "Passion Project" grant
    1. A letter describing your proposed project or activity in 500 words or less. A short video explaining the project is an alternative to the letter. 

SUBMISSION OF THE APPLICATION

Email the completed application packet to the scholarship committee by the application date of May 30th each year.

Announcement of awards

Announcements of awards will be made by the beginning of July each year. Recipients will be notified by email.

Awarded funds for scholarship recipient(s) will be deposited directly in their student account at Colorado State University for the Fall semester. Requests for exemptions for this requirement may be submitted to the CSSRM Board of Directors. The scholarship is to be used in the year it is awarded.

Passion Project grant awardees will have a check sent to them to use for their intended project. 

The decisions of the CSSRM Scholarship Committee are final and not subject to appeal. CSSRM reserves the right to award a portion of the money to eligible recipients OR not award any of the aforementioned scholarships or grants at all.

General Questions:
​Who Should Apply?
​The goal of the CSSRM scholarship program is to support individuals who are passionate about rangeland management and conservation. So, if you are someone who wishes to positively impact the future of rangeland conservation, whether that is via an academic program or other project, then we invite you to apply. The CSU Scholarship is geared toward academic pursuits that benefit rangelands, while the Passion Project Grant is open to a wide and diverse audience.
How large are the scholarship awards?
Up to $1,000 may be awarded for each of the educational scholarships. For the Passion Project Grant up to $1,000 will be awarded depending on the project being pursued. ​
how many scholarships can i apply for?
If an applicant meets all minimum requirements, they can apply for multiple scholarships. Please note, however, only one scholarship will be awarded per person.
What is the deadline for submissions?
Submissions for a scholarship must be received no later than May 26, 2024. Please send all application materials to [email protected]. If possible, please include the scholarship(s) you are applying for in the subject line.
when will scholarship recipients be selected?
Winners of the scholarships will be notified via email at the beginning of July. Recipients will be announced to the public on the same date.

is there a preferred format for application materials?
​Application materials must be submitted as standard file types, ex: .pdf., docx., etc. Video submissions for the Passion Project scholarship should be a link to where the video can be viewed.
if i don't get the scholarship this year, can i reapply next year?
Yes, applicants can re-apply for a scholarship the following year so long as they still meet all requirements.
What is cssrm?
CSSRM is the Colorado Section of the Society for Range Management, a professional society dedicated to supporting persons who work with rangelands and have a commitment to their sustainable use. Rangelands occupy about 50% of terrestrial lands on earth, and provide ecosystem services, wildlife habitat, protect watershed health, and support rural livelihoods. The Society for Range Management is dedicated to the conservation and sustainable management of rangelands for the benefit of current societies and for future generations. Our members are land managers, scientists, educators, students, producers, and conservationists— a diverse membership guided by a professional code of ethics and unified by a strong land ethic.

​Colorado State University Scholarship Questions:
What are the minimum requirements to apply?
For the Colorado State University scholarship, the minimum requirements are:

What are acceptable majors for this scholarship?
The main requirement is that the student’s major is related to or will benefit rangelands. The student also has to demonstrate why they are passionate about rangelands. Acceptable majors include, but are not limited to: Natural Resource Management, Rangeland and Forestry Management, Outdoor Education and Stewardship, Environmental Management, Ranch Management, Animal Sciences, etc.
Where should i send my official transcripts?
An e-copy of your transcripts are preferred. Please send official transcripts to Kasey Dollerschell at [email protected].
how do i receive my scholarship funds?
Awarded funds for undergraduate scholarship will be paid directly to the student’s school in the fall (requests for exemption to this requirement may be submitted to the CSSRM Board of Directors).

​Passion Project Grant Questions:
What are the minimum requirements to apply?
For the Passion Project Grant, the minimum requirements are:
  • Project must benefit or celebrate Colorado rangelands
  • Resume or curriculum vitae
  • Submission of a completed application by May 30th
  • Applicants must clearly state the name of their project and how it benefits rangelands in a letter of 500 words or less explaining the vision for the project, and what the funds will be used for. A short video is an acceptable alternative to a letter.
  • Grant applicants are asked to specify the amount of financial support being requested, up to $1,000
  • Grant recipients agree to provide a statement and photos for use in CSSRM outreach materials with a minimum of: a) a summary of their project or activity, b) an explanation of how the funds were used, and c) the key "take away" messages as it relates to Colorado rangelands
how do i receive my grant funds?
Funds for the Passion Project Grant will be paid directly to the grant recipient.
do i need to send official transcripts?
Official transcripts are not required for the Passion Project Grant.
what types of projects are acceptable for the passion project grant?
The main requirement for the Passion Projects scholarship is that it benefits or celebrates rangelands. Examples of acceptable projects include: graduate research projects, grazing school or other professional training opportunities, educational materials production, hosting a conference, photography, videography, and other art projects. 

This is a broad category scholarship because we recognize that there is a diversity of people doing good things for rangelands and we want to support those efforts.
